Ok guys, I just got a FAL and need advice on some gear to go with it. I'm looking for a light weight molle chest rig that will hold 4-6/20rd FAL mags, a med kit, and a few odds and ends ( pistol mags, flashlight, multitool etc.). I want mag pouches that are designed for 308 mags ( 1 per pouch) prefer open top with bungee. I'm thinking about a Tactical Tailor 2 piece Mav with single 308 shingles, but I don't have any experiance with TT products. I have a Eagle universal chest rig that would work great but the 20rd Fal mags get swollowed up in the pouches without magpuls ( I don't like magpuls much). Will TT shingles fit a Eagle molle chest rig? Any help would be great I don't want to spend money on new gear and find out it's not going to work the way I want it to. Yea I know what works for someone else might not work for me, but at least I can get some ideas. Plz post pics of your 308 setup if you've got them.

TT is good to go. Go to (how many mags in your to go rig) I think it on page 3 or 4.

You're absolutely on the right track.

A 1 or 2 piece MAV with X harness, and 4 of the TT single 7.62 magazine pouches should work great.

I have a one piece MAV, am waiting on my x harness, and am using all TT pouches.  The magazine pouches are their 5.56 3 mag pouches.  The mags fit perfectly in them but the pouches kind of poke me at the bottom.

I also have an ATS Tactical 7.62 Chest Harness.  EDITED

I've got some ALICE stuff too.  This stuff is perfectly usable, but the chest rig will give you quicker magazine changes and is better for getting in and out of vehicles and walking in tight quarters.

It's supposed to hold 4 M14 magazines, but it's nearly impossible to get 4 of them in.  Look how 3 of them fit in there.

Some of the stitching is already coming out/apart where the straps meet on the right side.

I run an SKD/Eagle PHUCR.
4 M14 magazines with magpuls. 3x XD Magazines, 1 tac light, in the native pouches.
I also have a PPM molle radio pouch mounted for my saber.  HSGI Nalgene pouch mounted for 1L water bottle, and I mount a PPM strobe pouch off that for a MS2000.

Sometimes I will swap one of the M14 magazines out to hold my XD9.

Woah, that looks sweet BaNo.

How do you like the shoulder straps?

Any complaints?  I can get one on the EE for $50 shipped I'm wondering if I should do it.  Thanks.

well for me, I did'nt like the way they 'closed in' on my neck, I just never did like it.
also, they don't really interact well with a backpack, as the thick padding did not let the packs shoulder straps sit right. thats why I went with the MAV.

and I'm not the only one

there was also a guy in the EE and on M4carbine.net that sold replacement straps, and I think even Eggroll offers a strap fix for it.

but some guys love it so......

Oh ok.  That's what I figured...that it would close in on the neck like that.

Thanks.

ATS is a pretty good company that makes some good stuff. Get a hold of them and let them know the problems you're having so they have a chance to fix it.

Someone told him to do that the first thread he bitched about it.
Not sure if he did or not, but I can't see ATS not making it right if they were indeed contacted.

Yeah, me too... ATS has always been decent from what I've seen.

Some people just like to bitch.

Maybe they should check their email.

And I'd really like to see them make the 3 vs. 4 magazine capacity issue "right."

I'd call them but I don't feel like paying for the phone call because I can just fix it myself when I get the chance.

The ATS rig is actually very good in all other respects.  I like how the body of it is about twice as stiff as the TT MAV's body.

I do as well. But if someone mentioned for you to give them a call, you haven't, and you still continue to complain, you become part of the problem. Everyone puts out a product sometimes that needs fixing.

I'm sure a long distance call would not cost much, especially in this day and age of cell phones with no long distance, and that it would be much cheaper in terms of the frustration you go through instead.

Try another email. Try an old fashioned phone call. They also have a message board where you may be able to PM or try a thread. www.lightfighter.net

If you don't want them to fix the problem, quit complaining, unless you happen to be their competition.

OK guys can we get this thread back on track now? I didn't start this thread to be a bash/defend ATS fest.

That is all,
Thank you

Okay, your points have been taken.  Let's be gentlemen and try to get this back on topic.

How well do M14 magazines fit in the pouches of the Blackhawk Omega Vests?
8/4/2008 7:59:13 PM EDT
[#20]
The Rifle/EOD vest that I used to wear would fit a single FAL mag, but i needed to stuff a roll of Kling in the bottom to keep it high enough to draw from quickly. That was also the older style of pouches/lids than they have today however, so I'm not sure if it will effect it or not.

Eagle/SKD Universal as my minimalist rig:

TT Strobe Pouch, Gerber LMF II ASEK.  I keep a mylar/OD survival blanket, fire tools, 30' of 550 and other stuff inside the vest panel.  White mini to screen, red mini to signal for help if I get more FVBAR than I already am.

Another +1 for the Eagle/SKD rig

On mine I also added a TT double M14 pouch under my left arm for two extra mags. I had one on the right side too but I found out right quick, that fouled my draw for my sidearm...
