I searched here and google trying to find an answer to this and I have no idea if this is right forum.  If it's been answered, I apologize.  I am looking to buy a M65 Field Jacket, but I don't know if I should get Propper or True-Spec.  I have a True-Spec already (in 3-color desert that I never wear because, you know, it's 3-color desert) and I like it.  But Propper costs less.  I suppose my questions goes to things like who has the better material/stitching and which zipper is better: metal or plastic?

I've owned several mil-surp M65s, all had metal zippers and no problems. But, I can't help you with the rest, sorry.

We recommend the nylon zipper since it jams and breaks less in cold weather. This is one major reason the official milspec changed and replaced the metal zipper with the nylon one.

Keep in mind that neither of these is approved for military operations as they are not NIR-compliant.

If this is just for personal use, I recommend ours since I work for Propper.

I've had two M-65's...  My first was an older OD one with Metal zipper.  The Metal one would jam / freeze up in the MN Winter cold.  I now have a Tru Spec one in Woodland with Plastic Zipper that works great!

I have had a mil-surplus M65 for several years and I have had absolutely no issues with it. The plastic zipper is foolproof.

I wish I still had my issue M65. The jacket was great. Check out the Tru-Spec here.
