Does anyone own a shotshell pouch they would recommend?  I know several manufacturers make them but I haven't seen them in person so I can't tell if they will last long. They make Molle/Belt models as well but I am thinking the molle version is easier to use.  Any help is appreciated.  Thank you.

i think the best idea would be trays in a normal mag pouch, with velcro backed tray and velcro on receiver.

These are pretty nice:http://www.tacticaltailor.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=263

Unless you are looking for a true pouch with a flap and all.

The first type I used was the old canvas Vietnam era 12 round Alice clip pouches. They worked OK for belt use. I made the mistake of buying the nylon import copies of the same pouches and the shells would bounce out of the pouch when open because the elastic was too loose. The drawbacks were that the lid closes by two snaps that are hard to close because they were sitting in front of round shells; so you would have to press the snap in just the right angle. Eagle made a newer updated version as is posted above and this one works great. The elastic is wider and retains the shotshells better. The flap closes with Velcro, which makes it easier to secure the flap after retrieving shells. The drawback would be that the Velcro makes noise for those that feel that is a factor. It has molle attachment webbing so it will fit most current gear.

Another option is the Blackhawk shotshell pouch that holds loose shells and has an overlapping elastic lid that keeps the shells in. It says that it is designed to hold 25 shells but it will actually hold around 40. Once the flap is opened, the elastic helps to prevent shells from bouncing out. To gain access to the shells, you reach into the elastic opening and your hand separates the overlapping elastic flaps.  Drawbacks are the noise the shells make when running, as they are loose and  no molle attachments. Not sure if these are still in production although they are still advertised on many sites.

The final one I have tried is the newer vertical molle pouches. They come in double row or triple row flaps with the final outer row of shells being held in place only by elastic loops. The shells that are held inside the flaps stay pretty secure, but some of the shells on the outside inevitably fall out sometimes in active movements. The triple row pouches hold plenty of shells (19) but are about 3 1/2 inches deep when all rows are loaded. These too use Velcro closures.

I realize you asked about pouches, but just FYI, John Willis made a panel for me about a year ago.  As boringly usual , his stuff is great.

Specter Gear, Eagle, SpecOps Brand and Blackhawk (STRIKE line of gear) make durable MOLLE-compatible shotshell pouches.

3-Gun Gear makes very durable shotshell holders (for forearm, a bandoleer, etc.) that are widely used in 3-gun and shotgun matches/competitions.

The best thing I found is a dump pouch type. I used the belt mounted Blackhawk shotgun shell dump pouch with elastic lips and the MOLLE Eagle SAW pouch with the elastic lips. The eagle is expensive as hell. I think $90. Diamondback has something similar on sale right now. Check their Camel Tan/ Olive drab sale.

I've tried all kinds of other pouches and nothing worked as well for me.

What do you want to use it for?  Like the other I have tried most of the forementioned.  If you want a pouch to carry a lot of shells and noise isn't a big factor I really like my blackhawk shotgun pouch, the elastic inner flap helps keep shells in when moving/runnig.  But I found that grapping shells that were loose slowed down my reloads.

If you are looking for speed I would highly recomend the California Comp or Progressive loader.  I have the Cali Comp, their much cheaper and work great for 3gun

I can give you a non-recommendation:

The "MOLLE" shotgun shell pouches sold by Sportsmans Guide are a big thumbs down.  The "MOLLE" attachment straps are so short that you will only be able to loop them through a single row of webbing.  No stability whatsoever, causing the entire pouch to swing upwards when you attempt to open the flap.  In other words, these are a bad molle knockoff.

If I had to hazard a guess, I'd say that the chinese manufactured shotgun shell pouches sold by CTD are the same.
