| I need some good hand held 2 ways. Something tough with a good range, and something I can plug a decent headset into. Anyone got any thoughts? |
| had my eye on these. I still need to see if they will work with ComtacII from Peltor, seeing as the radios are single pin. |

Check here: www.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=1&f=123&t=579350 I posted some information on the Kenwood TK 2100 radios set up for MURS. They are used, but in very good condition. Check the links I posted for more info. |

I use the Motorola "Securesaber" Saber II secure capable in the UHF. 10 zones 12 channels per zone. Ruggedized, water resistant, IS. Expensive but beats the shit out of FRS. Alot of departments are surplusing them now so there are plenty about. www.repeater-builder.com/motorola/saber/saber-index.html I bought mine off a guy on ebay. |
| i had the same need...find 'good' 2 way radios...i shopped around a bit and learned quickly that there are 2 levels of frs/gmrs radios...low end at $200 a pair at BestBuy or commercial grade radios going for $250-$300 each...i made my decision based on quality...i don't want to buy one set, realize the mistake i made, and then buy a 'good' set...the one i ended up with was ICOM IC-F14...it was programed for 16 channels, 7 FRS and 9 GMRS, and has 'military' case hardening...the dealers interpretation of limits to broadcast power allowed 5 watts to all channels...i've used them a few times the last six months during ATV fun...the lake bed we ATV at is only 3+- miles long...reception was = standing next to the other radio...these units are advertised at 12-15 miles, but i haven't had the need to try that range yet |
