What kind of stuff are you guys putting in your 3daps? I searched for "list" and "3DAP list" and came up with nothing so nobody give me the "Must be Saturday, here's the gear list thread AGAIN!" One thing I note with the 3DAP is that it's midsized... you must be selective with what you throw in there. So I'd like to see what you guys are filing yours with. I mean, I could fill mine with yummy marshmallows but that doesn't seem practical OR tactical.

Mine is set up as more of a Get Home Bag...not sure if that counts, but I do carry it when out walking for predators. Main compartment: Space bivy sack by Adventure Medical Small first aid kit Two rolls of "Charmin to Go" Extra Smartwool socks Stuff sack of small stuff - batteries, lighter, flint/magnesium stick, waterproof matches, Esbit stove and tablets Bandana Waterproof pullover pants Waterproof rain shell (stuffable) Goretex Sombrero Nomex gloves and wool liners for them Polartec ECWCS beanie Katadyn Hiker Pro (water filter) 33 gal trash bag (for use as poncho, ground cloth, shelter, pack cover, etc) Survival knife Compass Titanium cup stuffed with instant oatmeal packets Small exterior pocket: Headlamp Leatherman Extra pistol mag 550 cord 2 - Cliff MOJO bars (these things are the bee's knee's of powerbars!) Other exterior pocket: Small binoculars Silcock key Sharpie marker Ball point pen And depending on the pack I'm using I have a 16oz Nalgene bottle full of water in either the main compartment or in a side water bottle pocket. Not sure if this was what you were looking for, but I hope this helps. |

Inside or outside? Are you asking for a packing list or what kind of pouches and add-ons people use? Or both? For packing lists I know at least some folks in the SF use 3DSPs and if you search bug-out bags in either the regular or archives you'll likely find quite a bit. The bug-out bag threads are god for a generalized packing list where there is no specific mission beyond living out of the bag and surviving until getting to a new location to bug-in. |
Inside... I was hoping for a packing list of suggestions basically (thanks Jollyroger!) to start from. I got a pack sized like a 3dap and noted that it's a midsize pack - so you must be selective in how you pack it. I was just hoping for some ideas on what people are putting in theirs. For example, at first I was thinking of getting a 4' x 6' camo tarp - but I may just do the large garbage bag thing and let it ride, saving space for other items... That kind of thing. |

If you have any kind of external attachment points you could get some extra pockets for things that might take up space in your main cargo area. Instead of the 4x6 tarp, how about this. Has it's own pouch you can attach to the outside of the pack. That's the route I went. - Food as well as a way to maintain your food supply if you need too. I keep some rations as well as a small telescoping fishing pole w/kit in my pack. - Firestarter (matches, lighters, etc... usually at least one of each for redundancy) - Multi-tool - water and a way to purify it - medical supplies (don't pack more than you're capable of doing. No point in having surgical tools unless your know how to use them. Always know how to use what you have) - Flashlight +batteries - spare clothes... especially socks - personal hygiene stuff. Try surviving on your own with a tooth rotting out of your head or some gnarly fungus growing in your ass crack) just a start I guess... |

Cool thanks! I stopped at Bass Pro on Sunday and was looking at some of the camping goodies there ... they make propane powered hot water heaters for showering! I wonder if that would fit... I picked up a couple items for the bag (fire starting stuff, little things like that) there and want to pick up a good poncho too. Anyone know of a good MOLLE compatible knife sheath for a fixed blade knife w/ an approx. 8" blade? Pref. in tan. |
