| Just got a well used Camelback straight from service in the sandbox, fully functional, got a new bladder, but the 3 color desert outside is pretty dirty, is it machine washable? Hand washable? Note: there was still sand in the pockets! Any suggestions? |
| I got two Thermobaks; one in WD and one in 3C; the one in WD I bought with me to the sandbox, the other one was left inside an empty tent in Kuwait (unit there just hopped on the plane back to the US); the 3C one was in good shape, a bit dusty, but good enough to be reused; I took it home, bought a new bladder and washed the cover in the washer and air dried it; now is my spare Camelback. I know a whole mess of GIs dumped their excess TA-50 in the dumpster prior to returning home, so being the resourceful "Dumpster Rat" that I am (not to mention the fact that I had to jump in there to ensure no frags, ammo or Iraqi weapons where tossed in there); I made like a bandit with a whole mess of extra gear, including a Therma-Rest inflatable mat, a couple of used coolers and some MOLLE pouches, plus M16 mags out the whazoo! Some even loaded. |

For the Bladder I use a combination of 3 Tbl Soda, 1 cup vinegar an a tablespoon of bleach.....Shake it up and let it fizz for a while turning it over from time to time. Drain rinse 3-4 times than add a cup of Citrus Listerene, or Target (Cheaper) Citrus mouthwash to get all the taste out...Drain, rinse and should be good to go blader wise. Karsten |
