| I'm looking for a rig to run AK mags in that is similar to a Hellcat. Anyone happen to have any leads on something similar? I'm doing an AK class with LAV and need a chest rig of some type. If it comes down to it, I could always buy one of the old school NVA style carriers, but would prefer something a bit more up to date. |

Blackhawk has AK compatible rigs not all are so ask. If it accomodates AR mags it can accomodate 5.45 and .5.56 mags in terms of length, girth may limit one 74 mag where two ar mags might have gone, 47 mags are often too long for AR rigs. Heres a start. More specific. More here. Shop around and you will usually find better prices, should at leastt help with names. |

I frequent this site for its vast content and information and found that they have a nice selection of AK and universal chest rigs. Savvy Survivor Tac vests/Chest rigs Even if you don't like the products, it's a great site and I've combed through it numerous times. |

Thanks for the links, but I didnt see what I'm ideally looking for. I'd prefer to have something that holds one layer of mags in open top pockets. Being able to carry the mags baseplate up is also a desired feature. Of the links provided I think the closest thing was the Callahan |

You could also try here. I have this model 'in the air',, should arrive in a day or so.. www.russiancombatgear.com/product_details/SOM_M32_PHT_(Shturm).php JJ |

The trouble with tightly fitting, open top AK pouches is that the locking tab at the rear of the magazine really interferes with pulling the mag out. so you're kind of stuck with the big loose velcro-closing pouches with an AK. Fun fact - if it werent for the locking tabs, I could fit AK74 mags into a Tactical Tailor single bungee-top pouch

| I'm not 100% sure but despite the fact that the MOUT rig is designed for AR mags, it might work for you. I believe that a mag pouch that will hold 2 AR mags will hold a single AK mag and the pouches have elastic all the way around. If you're willing to make the investment for the MOUT rig, you may be able to talk to customer service from where you'd buy it and ask them if you can return it if it doesn't work for you. In fact, I know the owner of Savvy Survivor may very well be willing to take a MOUT rig and put single AK mags in each pouch and tell you how well it works out if you shoot him an email. Aside from the fact that it's designed for AR mags, from what you're saying, the MOUT seems to be exactly what you're looking for. |
