My three gun rig is also my SHTF/bug out first line.  It is a black hawk 4 mag ar pouch, uncle mikes 2 mag pistol pouch, and a uncle mikes leg holst for a M&P .40.  does any one think that I should try to build a chest rig instead?  I can carry seven ar mags total right now, 4 in the pouch, one in the butstock pouch on my ar and two "in" the mag well of the ar.
What advantages are their to a chest rig?
thanks for any help

Im old school, had a hard time switching over to molle gear.
You can get decent molle vest and chest rig off EE & ebay.

Reason I'd mention molle, cause Im five or better LBVs in closet.

Molle, fits the bills reguardless of mission at hand.

As a gunner on a HMMWV in Iraq, I wore a BHI SAS Mk IV leg rig for my M9; though a MOLLE holster attached to yoru vest is a better choice when you are inside a HMMWV and you have to reach for a weapon in a SHTF moment and having one on your chest while sitting inside is better than reaching down to your leg and trying to fumble with turning your leg rig up, removing the thumb break and then raising the weapon to eye level or high enough to clear the door and snap-shoot a couple of rounds.

I recommend either a Blade-Tech Tactical Chest Rig Holster or a Blackhawk SERPA CQC Holster with a BlackHawk CQC S.T.R.I.K.E. Ambidextrous Platform.

If Kydex/Carbon Fiber is not your thing, then a S.T.R.I.K.E. Gen-4 MOLLE System M4 Pistol Pouch might fit the bill.

Load up your drop leg platforms, then go do a 100 yard sprint.  :-)

Then report back to us what you think LOL

Did that, the blackhawk mag pouch stayed put,  My holster floped around a little, but nothing major.

Chest rigs are better for carrying more ammo and accessing it easier.  It should be your main source for reloads.  Subloads provide you wih a good 1st line rig that should only be accessed when you expend all ammo from your 2nd line (chest rig/vest/carrier/etc) or if you have had to ditch your 2nd line for some reason.  Subloads are back-up only.

The same technique should be used with water.  The water in your 3rd line gear (pack) should be expended first when you stop to take a break.  The third line gear is the first to be ditched in an emergency and therefore should not contain all your water.  If/when you have to ditch the pack, you will still have the full supply on your 2nd or 1st line gear.

So, in essence, your 1st line gear (belt, subload, holster, pockets, etc) is the last to go and therefore should not be depleted.  See how this works?
