When I get back from the desert I want to get ready to do 3 gun. I will be getting a 12 gauge as well do not know brand but this is not what I am here for. I have a CAV-15 (11 30 round mags) and a Taurus 24/7 (2 Hi-cap and 4 low-cap mags) and in a few months a 12 gauge. What I need help in is setting up a belt and suspenders setup that will be simple and not cost a arm and a leg. I have a OD Beld and Suspenders and a Coyote Brown belt and suspenders and all I need are pouches that can go on them. I have the GI issue standard pouches but I was told to get something different. What do you tactical guys think? I have a camelpack right now and a Blackhawk assult pack with hydration system but I am trying to find out what to wear other than water. Any help suggestions will be a plus. I need gear and want to get some please help. Scott |
| I like the remington competition master for 3-gun.Alot of guys use a duty belt (nylon) with the plastic holster and mag pouches.Cheap and fast ,no real need for suspenders.Glocks are also good no saftey to work and easy to clean. Also have a setup with hsld suspenders,tt belt, maxpedition dump ect...hope this helps |

Do you want to be "tactical" or competitive ? Tactical rigs carry unnecessary weight and bulk for competitive use, and are typically too slow to access (although they are more secure). Many are also illegal (for example, thigh holsters are illegal under IPSC rules). You could spend a lot of $$$ for equipment that looks good but performs poorly or is verboten. For well designed and well made competition kit, I suggest you look at 3gungear. ETA: Get a semi-auto shotgun (Benelli or Remington)... pumps are not competitive. |

It really depends on why you are shooting, what you are trying to get out of shooting, and the matches you are shooting. There are some matches we shot that being able to carry 4AR mags, 40-50 shot shells, and 5-6 pistol mags all at once is neccessary...you will probably not find this to be neccessary at local or club level matches. When I first got into 3 gun several years ago, I went with the minimalist approach...I moved away from that when I got sick of reconfiguring my gear for each particular stage and there is only so much ammo you can carry without a load bearing system of some kind. One of the main advantages to having the same rig carry ammo for all 3 guns, is your ammunition will be in the same place every time...you will not have a brain fart on a multi-gun stage and reach for the wrong mag. I do carry a lot more ammo than I would need for any given stage...but I never run out if the stage proves to be more difficult than anticipated. I can't say the gear I use slows me down much...when I'm slow, it's because I suck, not because I'm wearing more than I "need" Get a pump if it's what you can afford...your skill will hold you back longer than the marginal mechanical disadvantage an pump has. Shotgun shooting is usually entirely a reloading race...he who can load his shotgun the fastest will do better than the person who's gun cycles the fastest. The healthiest outlook I believe to have with competition shooting, is doing it to improve your own personal skills, and trying to beat your buddies of similar skill level. If you get wrapped up into what is "competitive" and what isn't....unless you are a truly gifted and talented shooter, you will likely end up frustrating yourself quickly. There is no one governing body for 3 Gun...keep that in mind when attending matches, do your best to read and understand the rules before you get there related to equipment, scoring etc. Ask match staff if you have questions.
Thigh rigs are now legal for USPSA AFAIK. |

Thanks for the info and all the help with the front sight. Going to sight it in today Traded in both of my Taurus's for a New FN Police Shotgun pump with night sights and collasable stock and a Glock 26. Along with my Cav-15 I think have enough for 3 gun and action shooting. I know I am the limiting factor so why pay a ton when I need to get the skills down. I can start sooner maybe before I get back from the sandbox. I have 3 Glock 19 mags that I am going to put the A&G mag extensions on them for use with the G26: glockmeister.com/catalog/product_info.php/cPath/62_86/products_id/60 I have my GI issue LBE that I can probally add Spec ops brand mag holders on them they are velcro closing so that might be good and a dump pouch. And look into how to hold the shotgun shells. 50 min so I am think 75 is a good number. Probally spec ops brand pistol holders too. If I have too much weight then I will adjust but I think for the first time it should be good and see how it goes. I do like SinistralRifleman's setup from what i have seen it would be good just would have to build on it. Thanks Oh how are my weapon choices? Cav-15 Glock 26 FN 12 Gauge Police Shoutgun with pistol grip. Can anyone reccomend a shotgun sling for the shotgun? Scott |
