Why are they sooooo expensive? Check out the "Dooms Day Vest" here... http://www.specopstech.com/st/catalog1.asp?view=product&id=447 660 bucks for this thing? What makes it so special? It'd better give birth to more dooms day vests! |

Made in the USA probably explains it as much as anything else. Probably made by overpaid Union Seamstresses. Sing it with me: Look for the Union Label. I remember the last time I went looking for American Made Sneakers the only ones I could find were made by Avia and they were priced $289.00. I bought a pair made in China for $59.00 on sale marked down from $79.00. |
I bought my Avia's for $20. What the hell kind of shoes were the ones you saw? Could they make you fly?! |
| WTF are all you 'America Haters' talking about? That particular vest is expensive because it has a ton of pouches and uses plastic and kydex inserts. Pull your heads out of your asses and look at any of the other vests they sell and you'll see that most of their vests are around $200 which is in the same price range as everybody else on the market, including the commie Blackhawk crap. |
Oh I see. So by adding a little plastic and kydex, I should pay an extra 400 dollars. Hmmmm And who said anything about us hating america? Some of us who have budgets, can't afford to spend 600 bucks on a vest just because it's built in america and has plastic in it, so we're forced to buy a cheaper alternative. Believe me, I'm ALL ABOUT buying American made products.

You picked one specific item that is priced very high and decided to bitch about the company for making an expensive vest. Some Cadilllacs are expensive, do you post in here asking why GM makes cars that you can't afford to buy? And then we get several more people in here talking about how all American gear is overpriced based on that one example. SO Tech makes several other vests that are priced competitivly. They also make the excellent Hellcat chest rig which can be bought for less than $150, allows you to carry 6 magazines and is modular so you can add the pouches that you need when you need and can afford them without being stuck with the configuration of vest that you bought the first time out. Or you can select a vest from any number of other manufacturers. I've been very happy with my gear from Eagle, Tactical Tailor, SOE and HSGI. All made in America and all priced appropriately for what you get. |

"Some of us who have budgets, can't afford to spend 600 bucks on a vest just because it's built in america and has plastic in it, so we're forced to buy a cheaper alternative" SO-tech has a crap load of vests, most priced reasonably well , but your whineing about one specialized vest they produce. Apparently its not the vest for you, so why complain? There is alot of work involved in makeing that vest that i can see them chargeing 600+ for it, would i spend that much on it.....no but my needs dont require a vest of that make and there are plenty of companys with loads of vests on the market to find one that fits your needs and budget all in one. |
i hate you hinking |

Well, I had no idea that I was gonna start such a controversy. But I'm not about to sit back and let y'all unload on me like that. "You picked one specific item that is priced very high and decided to bitch about the company for making an expensive vest. " We're in the Tactical Gear forum, so why talk about GM cars? And as for you flaming the other people for backing me up on how expensive American stuff is based on this "one" example, I'm not basing that on this "one" example. I can list many, I believe that a pair of avia shoes were also mentioned as well. If you're going to nit pick, then so will I. Do you work for SO Tech, did you make the vest. Then why get your panties in a wad just because I think a few items of theirs are over priced? I think just about everything is overpriced these days. Why can't I vent a little about one little vest? If I wanted to list everything that I thought was overpriced, we'd be here for years. Some of my family members work for Bell Helicopter Textron, and others fought in Desert Storm and Desert Shield. The Government has put many clothes on my back, and food on my plate. All I'm saying is that we try a little harder to make it easier for EVERYONE to buy American goods. Now can't we all just get along? |

Jesus Christ, WTF do you care how expensive it is? Are you a communist? SOTech obviously can't market the vest without selling it a profit, and the profit point is obviously ~$600.00. Firms like Paraclete and Eagle offer unique vests that sell in that price range as well. Do you realize that these firms do their own R&D and manufacturing? They don't just copy someone else's design once it's proven. (can you say Blackhawk?) THAT costs money. If you want cheap commie crap to play Airsoft with, then go buy it, but don't fucking complain when American companies build quality products for very limited markets and have to charge enough to make a profit. Go test a Kifaru pack, and you'll immediately see why they cost more than others. But they ARE worth it. Trust me. Same for stuff from the like of SOTech, HSGI, and SOE, to name a few. It's up to you if you can live with your decision to pay for what amounts to products made by slave labor. |
Unless somebody has some actual details about the vest they are talking out their ass when bashing this vest or anything about it. And anybody who thinks that unions are involved in companies as small as these gear makers needs to do some research before opening their pie holes.

Specialized, labor intensive, low production run items cost more....that's a fact. I'm really not sure what that vest was deisgned to do, but I know you can buy at least two fully outfitted American made modular vests for that price. If it doesn't fit your mission, needs, or budget, don't buy it. I am curious what industries the gentlemen who said buy made in China work in? |
+ 1 Zillion..... and the "just buy a Chinees knock-off" shit makes me want to go postal. People like that are why we are loosing the economic war with China... |
