so a few months ago, I picked up a used Mossberg 395KB 12ga bolt action that came with a C-Lect choke (adjustable choke) that a previous owner had decided to crank all the way down until it was more or less a 0.060" constriction (bet it put at least a few pellets through the same hole...) and left it there for god only knows how long, never removing for cleaning or to let the fingers of the collet relax. one of my first tasks after taking ownership was getting the collet ring off to clean it, and now the collet ring loses contact with the collet fingers once one tries to open the choke up past 0.030" constriction (aka full choke), any further unscrewing results in the collet ring being a rattle fit. is there anything that can be done to spread the collet back to the original state, or am I better off having the polychoke removed and replaced by a Colonial Arms screw-on choke adapter? Numrich does have 395 barrels threaded for external chokes that could be bought, threads chopped off and the barrel threaded for standard internal chokes then installed, but that's an awful lot of effort for a 12 gauge smoothbore bolt gun I paid $130 for

Try opening it up with a rod or something with a gentle taper like a ring sizer or something similar.

I'm a redneck.

I'd soak the choke in Kroil or something similar overnight, wipe it out thoroughly, and shoot some bird shot through it on the most open setting possible.  The passage of the shot might help to open it back up.
