| Who makes the best replacement mag spring for an 870 tactical? I have a Remington and a Scattergun technologies coming. The Remington factory spring failed in less than 3 years so I don't have any confidence in it. Is the ST spring superior? Any other options? |

Quoted:
How did the Remington spring fail? This is a 7-shot, correct? 6 rounds in mag, one in chamber. The gun has been fully loaded for approximately 3 years. The magazine spring has become so weak and shortened to the point that it will barely push the last shell into the action for chambering and so short that the spring no longer applies pressure to keep the barrel nut tight. |

Not feeding the last round is a sign its time to replace the spring. Keeping the barrel nut tight has little to do with it unless it has the plastic plug and cap with internal detent notches like the express models. Those damn things won't stay tight by design and is the worst thing Remington did to the 870. If you put a spring in there strong enough to hold it then loading is gonna be really tough. I like Wolff springs as replacements in anything. Try pft tape on the mag tube threads to thicken them up and make the cap a tighter fit. |

I would suggest adding the detent and spring to the barrel band if it has the hole drilled in it. The detent will keep the cap on. Also, you use the friction ring to hold the magazine spring in when the cap is removed. Parts and detent staker are pretty cheap and since you are ordering a magazine spring anyway, why not do it right.
