I do not have a lot of experience with shotguns. 1. I want and auto loader. 2. An auto loader that I plan to turn into a Class 3 SBS (Barrel down to the mag tube). What is the difference between these two models? I have always heard good things about the 1100 but was at the store today saw the 1187 for 200 less and I have seen several class 3 1187s as well. I have never really heard anything about the 1187.

1187 is designed for shooting magnum length shells
the extractor of the 1187 is about 1/3 thicker
magazine tube for the 1187 is stainless, and has a detent at the cap end
1187 barrel has a pressure regulating "C" clip covering two large bleed off ports, designed for use with higher pressure shells... if you are going to shoot lower pressure loads  for gun games, like factory promo for 3 gun, the factory 21" 1187 barrel does not have the bleed off provision, and looks similar to the 1100 barrel

I don't think much of the trigger group is different, possibly a longer lift gate for longer shells, and probably a "black" buffer for the bolt
the 1187 will probably have the later single piece gas ring, older 1100s possibly the two piece gas ring

if you take the trigger group out of either, be warned, the bolt carrier movement hones the cut in the side of the receiver to razor sharpness

Listen to this man.  From experience, it becomes sharp enough to cut before you even feel it.

Years ago a major reliable source said that if you intend to load it and leave it in the closet until you need it, then go with the 1187.
