I put a Pro Mag extenstion on my 870 magnum.  I ran into the initial problem of jamming after loading 5 rounds, I was able to bevel the internal edge of the magazine extension.  Loads fine.

However; last night I tried pushing in a 7th round(2 3/4" shells) and was able to get it in no problem.  I then attempted to download it and after 2 rounds, the spring and follower were kinked.  Luckily gravity prevailed and I was able to slide the rounds out.

The point of my post is about design, which is best?  The Pro Mag is a 2 piece(tube and a collar/retaining cap nut).

Will I have better reliability from the Wilson one-piece?

all of my Remingtons are of older manufacture, so a question... is there a dimple at the front of the magazine tube that aligns the toothed plastic lock that engages the magazine cap like found on the 1187?..   if so, you need to dolly it out with a mandrel and light taps with a ball peen hammer to allow shells to pass

No dimples, this is an 870 Magnum, prior to the express.

Why did you choose promag over Nordic, Choate, Wilson, Briley, Xrail or even Tacstar?  The answer to that question will likely resolve your problem.

As for what you have now, did you trim the spring length at all?

As for two piece versus one piece, not a huge issue.

This.  The number of components alone should have absolutely no bearing on reliability.
