So I have a urge to get into 3 gun and have a older HK import S90 that was originally my wife's deer gun (she since dropped down to a 20GA) that has not seen much use since I got it 10 years ago. I need to get a new barrel for it since it is currently outfitted with a smooth bore slug barrel and rifle sights so as I pulled it out of the safe today to look at it, I noticed something odd,  the bolt was closed on an empty chamber and it slipped out of my hand and fell to the floor buttstock first. I noticed a noise and wondered what it was so I tried to replicate it with a soft stroke of the buttstock on the floor and watched the bolt move to the rear out of battery. Is this normal? Since I was at home I did not repeat the maneuver with a loaded chamber but this gives me pause. Should I be concerned?

The inertia of the bolt carrier opened the action slightly.  Nothing to worry about... the firing pin retracts as the bolt rotates out of battery.

That is completely normal. All healthy Benelli inertia guns do that.

That's what I was figuring since it is an inertia driven gun. Now, need to find a replacement barrel.......

Just did it with a M4. Mines mosdef not broken, so I'm saying it's normal.

What kind of barrel are you looking for? There are a few in the Equipment Exchange(none of them for sale by me).

I was a couple days late on a 21 inch with fiber front sight. I looked through the EE and saw a couple but they were camo if I remember correctly. My M1 is 18.5 now with 8 plus 1 from the factory. I'd be ok with the same provided that it had chokes. New M2 barrels are expensive and you have to get new hanguards too.

What about sending off your barrel and having it threaded for chokes? Italian shotgun barrels are stupid-expensive, and this may be a better option.

Hadn't thought of that option. Any recommendations where to look?

Thanks, I'll give him a call today. I am bidding on anM1 barrel on gunbroker, its an 18.5 with ghost ring sights and 3 chokes, its up to 350 now.

As far as the gunbroker barrel is concerned,  I'm not sure I want ghost ring sights since I'm trying to set it up for 3 gun.  Really wish I'd have seen the 21" vent rib a couple weeks ago. ...

You could probably add chokes and a ghost ring front sight to your existing barrel for $350.

I can have the work done at Briley's for $250 and that includes 3 chokes. Better than $500 for a new barrel nut Im a bit hesitant to mess with the original barrel. Would you be concerned since its an HK stamped gun?

Nope.
