I have an older Wingmaster 870 that some time ago I put a Choate extension tube on.  The gun holds 7 2 3/4" shells.

Is the tube considered a +3, +4 or +5?

Also, it has a 20" barrel and the tube ends just about flush with the muzzle.  Does anyone run a tube that extends out past the muzzle or is this dangerous?

Not dangerous.  Get a tube, follower and Wolf spring from Scattergun Technologies/Wilson Combat

What size tube do I currently have on it?  Gun holds 7  2 3/4" shells excluding the chamber.

^ This is wrong ^.....OP, 7 in the tube and its flush with the 20 barrel that is a +3 for sure.  And you can go pretty far past the barrel, very common in 3 gun.  Those guys seem to hang the extension about 10" out beyond the end of the barrel.  Hope this helps

WOW!

OP, came here to post about the same thing.

Just purchased a Choate "7 shot", installed the orange follower and spring that came with it

but.....it only holds 5+1.

What gives?

Gun is the same...older (70's) Wingmaster 870 pump 12 ga. with 18.5 inch barrel.
