This tab on the loading gate of my Mossberg 500 was interfering with the loading by catching the rim of the shells when i stuffed them in the tube. I would have to finesse each shell and it was a pain in the butt. I thought about using a Dremel and cutting a chamfer on the leading edge but ruled that out immediately. Removing metal on a gun didn't appeal to me so I chose "plan B".
This tab in the middle of the skeletonized loading gate was needing to be bent inwards about 1/16",
so I made this tool out of some aluminum by cutting a transverse slot in a scrap piece with a bandsaw.
It fit the tab just right and only took a few pounds of force to bend the tab,
The tab fit into the slot in the receiver with several thousandths to spare.
If anyone has had an issue with this on their shotgun, maybe this tutorial could help you too.

I assume it feeds reliably with the altered carrier?

Like buttah! It's a different gun to me now. I can effortlessly load it with no special attention.
