I have the 500 seen here:

I just had a friend powder coat it, it was old and beat up. I got it used in 1991..it's not even tapped.

The standard pistol grip is pretty rough, been reading about the Raptor and thinking of getting one.

Anyone have any thoughts or experience with it? Its going to to stay short, I have 590 and an 870 stocked..

It's flipping amazing!   No really.....

I love mine.  The way it works it directs recoil back into the wrist & arm liner.  It's really easy to control even one handed. I have one om my 18" 500.
The no stock haters can hate...but it really is useful. I can hit targets close & at distance with no problems. Rapid firing as well.
It's not as comfy as a traditional stock but it's much better then your normal pistol grip. And on the mossberg's the safety & slide release are just as accessible as with a normal stock.

I've tried a lot of pistol grips and the Raptor is the best for recoil control. I have two of them. One on my 14" Mossy 590 and I just installed the other one I had on a 500 Cruiser last night. Don't hesitate, pick one, or more, up!

As the above poster said, accuracy is surprisingly good with muscle memory. I can clear the plate rack at 35 feet very quickly holding it tight to my side, up high. Don't be "that guy" that holds it down by your waist and actually expect to hit something.

How long ago did you build that? Buy all the parts listed here? http://shockwavetechnologies.com/site/?page_id=14

I didn't build it. It's a factory Mossberg 590 SBS and I removed the Speedfeed buttstock and put the Raptor grip on. I have a lot of shotguns, mostly with buttstocks, so I wanted to play with the pistol grips on my 14".

I could have saved myself $195 in NFA tax if I bought a factory 14" Mossy 590 AOW instead, but I want the option of using a buttstock on my SBS if I want to. I used a 14" Mossy 590 in a shotgun class one time and have been hooked on the SBS ever since.

I just bought a Mossy 500 Cruiser like the OP's from J&G sales for $290 after shipping. I was planning an AOW build similar to the Serbu but I've been rethinking the design. After shooting pistol grip shotguns with the factory pistol grips, homemade wooden grips and Hogue Mossy pistol grips, the Raptor is just so superior to them all, I am thinking about using it on my new build. It will add a little to the OAL but the recoil reduction is worth it. I've heard the Pachmayer Vindicator absorbs recoil very well, too, so that's another option. I'm ordering one to try but if it isn't a lot better than the factory Mossy grip or Hogue pistol grip, it's definitely the Raptor for the build.
