Even after trying out Eotech 512 and Aimpoint, still cannot decide.
Does 512 seat too high?  I hear AP H1 is a good choice.

The EOTechs do sit pretty high.  The Aimpoint Micro T1/H1 can be mounted very low.... and with its compact size, light weight, ruggedness, and crazy awesome battery life would be my first choice if I put a red dot on my shotgun.

Does H1 have any disadvantages over the larger M4, other than battery life?

what's the battery life of an M4? H1 is like 5.5 years!

Maybe a smaller sight picture?

T-1/H-1 is smaller diameter optics than the M-4.  The M-4 has 8 years of batter life, uses AA batteries, but is much larger and heavier.  I would use an H-1 on a shotgun.

I am debating using a Trijicon RMR.

I've never used a shotgun with a red dot, but this setup seems like it would be money.  I am also very intrigued by the Burris speed bead.

I have seen a Trijicon RMR lose its zero during a class but I doubt that is typical of trijicon products.  I am running a H1 sight with good success so far.  I think the rmr or H1 are better choices than larger sights depending on how you manipulate the shotgun during reloads.  If you are coming over the top of the gun to "combat load" then optics can get in your way a bit.  I have not had this issue with my H1.

Another option is the  Burris Fastfire. Maybe invest in a primary arms sight to find the style that suits you before spending 500 or 600 on an optic you may end up not liking.

Fastfires and RMRs - heck, darn near anything with an ambient light sensor - will wash out when a weapon light is used, and can have a difficult time when the unit is in a dark area aimed at a light area.

The FF (at least the Gen1 unit I tested) also has the dubious quality of a flickering dot in total darkness. All of the small, hooded MRDs will require a very consistent cheekweld to find the dot.

Powered LED MRDSs don't have these issues.  I'd go with the Aimpoint T1.
