I want to get a stock with a pistol grip, a tube ext and a heat shield for an 18.5" barrel.

What do you recommend?

Thank you

Do you want a psitol grip on a normal stock or just a pistol grip?
If looking for a pistol grip on a normal stock, look at Speedfeed stocks.  Also look at mesa tactical urbino as an option.
If looking for just a pistol grip, look at Hogue griptamer

Extension tube:
Scattergun technologies or remington factory extension tubes are your best options.

Pistol grip on a normal stock.

What length tube ext?

Thank you for the info.

Pistol girp on a normal stock then your choices are pretty much the Speedfeed III or the Speedfeed IV (the III has storage for 3 shells in the stock, the IV is solid with no storage for shells in the stock) or you can go with the Mesa Tactical Urbino (no shell storage, but the sling loop is through the stock).

For an 18.5" barrel - a +2 extension will be just about even with the end of the barrel.
For a 20" barrel - a +3 extension will be pretty close to even with the end of the barrel.

Excellent info - thank you.

Now, what about a heat shield?

I don't know anything about heatshields for shotguns - I never thought they had much of an impact on anything.  I always kinda thought they were like putting a fake can on a rifle - looks cool as hell, but doesn't really do anything.
I know ATI and Tac star make heat shields for the 870s, but I have heard they their quality is spotty, and typically the owner has to modify them or adjust them so the fit is correct and they do not vibrate loose.

Mesa or Wilson make good extensions.

As far as a heat shield, I don't have a clue about one for an 870.

If you decide to replace the forearm, you might look into getting the special removal/ assembly tool for the ring that keeps the handguard on.  I helped my brother swap his out, and would rather pay a gunsmith than do it again without the tool.

A pair of needle nosed pliers with the jaws opened and used like a spanner, works very well for this. I have done it a few times.

The scattergun tech (wilson) follower is far superior to the Remington factory followers. It is the first thing I change in any 870 or 1100. I like the jumbo head safety too.

I like the old school look with the special $200 accessory:

I saw CDNN's newest catalog offers an 870 heat shield for $10 or so.  It doesn't look like anything special, but it's another option.

Urbino Stock, Vang Comp Mag extension (or Wilson Combat) forget the heat shield.  Done.

Extensions: Wilson Combat (Scattergun Tech) or Nordic Comp

Stock: Speedfeed pistol grip kit.

If you have an old lug wrench, you know the old single one that has a bladed end. This is probably the easiest way to loosen and remove the bolt that holds on the butt stock.
