Alright,

I searched, but got no really usable results.

Currently, I only know of 4 options for the Benelli M4 buttstock.

The standard, no pistol grip stock:

The Standard pistol grip stock:

The Benelli collapsible stock:

And the Mesa Tactical Urbino:

Are there any others that I am not aware of?

Now, the reason for this post is as follows:

I want short LOP, and I like the idea of collapsible, but paying $300+ is not going to happen, they are not worth that much money...

So this got me to thinking, what do we actually want in a stock for the M4?

1. US Made would be huge. Adding the Buttstock to the list of items that can be used for 922r compliance would make things very nice.
2. Adjustable - make it more comfortable for individual shooters.
3. Affordable - I know I quoted $300 above, but I haven't seen one of the Benelli collapsible stocks available for less than $450 in a long time.

I came across the following photochop when I was doing some digging:

Why wouldn't this work? Or something very similar work? I know the recoil spring rod is at a sharper angle, but I think that can be worked around to provide a better stock, that is made in the US, as an option for the M4.

Am I missing something completely obvious?
Is there anything about this that would be "illegal"?

Looking for input before I go start tinkering to see what I can make happen...

The M4 market is a niche market, there aren't that many people running out to buy $1600 shotguns compared to other shotguns.

Mesa Tactical did plan on making a US made C stock, but decided against it since it would have been too expensive and it would of taken them forever to make a profit due to the above. Also the Benelli design is somewhat exclusive to itself, so it would be difficult for Mesa to make a stock that would cross over to other platforms like the 870 or 500, which make up most of their sales.

You've covered the only four options that currently exist.

From my experience with the M4, there is no perfect answer for which stock to use. I personally use the collapsible stock in the middle position. However, I also use an Aimpoint T1 optic which rides higher than the iron sights. Attempting to use the iron sights when using the stock in the middle position is an uncomfortable combination for me. Fortunately for me, the LOP at the fully extended position does not bother me, so I may use it when only using iron sights. Other issues affect the installation of the collapsible stock. Such as it needing four additional US made parts in order to be 922(r) compliant. The price is steep. I luckily purchased one for 265 dollars back in January. Users with the M1014 and 11703 Benelli M4's must modify or replace the receiver extension in order to make the collapsible stock functional. I've sourced and replaced the receiver extension, while not impossible, it isn't exactly an easy task. Fortunately, most users are using the 11707+ models.

The Benelli factory collapsible stock is actually rather well made. I was expecting a mostly plastic stock upon arrival. What I received has a lot more cast aluminum parts than expected. Is it worth 350+ dollars? That may be pushing it. If users recall, a few years ago these stocks were pushing almost a 1000 dollars.

If you are strictly using iron sights and have a need for a shorter LOP, then the Mesa Tactical Urbino stock is probably the best option.  Having said that, there is much about the Urbino that I dislike. The mounting solution is terrible. Several people have damaged their receiver extension because of the attachment method of the Urbino. Others have had the stock shoot loose during recoil. Those who have used locktite to retain the attachment screw have been really sorry when it came time to remove the stock. The grip needs redone to match the ergonomics of the factory stocks.

Bottom line is, the collapsible stock is the best thing going since it gives the user multiple LOP positions. It also retains the original ergonomics and mounting system.

My collapsible stock gives me the best cheek weld of any shotgun I've ever owned.  I know some guys have an issue with the sights not lining up right, but I've not had a single problem.  It sucks that I took all this money to make mine 922(r) compliant.  Now it looks like we might possibly be able to buy them off the shelves the way Benelli intended on importing them?

Do you have a link with details about Benelli importing non-neutered versions?  I was looking to buy a Benelli in the next month but may hold off now.

Thanks,

I have heard through the grapevine that someone may be coming out witha copy of the military style collapsible stock in the third picture down.

Any idea who, or when?

If that information got around, and we started showing the interest for such an option to them, that may serve to move things along.
