I'm kind of into old US pump shotguns with steel receivers.   Someone on FAL Files told me to look at JC Higgins Model 20.  It's really a High Standard Model 200, sold by Sears in a different time.  This one is unmolested and has a full choke.  It's in really nice condition.  I took it out to shoot at some clay targets today.  I hit a lot of trees because I suck.

One time, I vaporized a clay target while some people were watching, and I thought I was a man for a second, but the forest echoed with laughter.

Most fun I have had with a firearm lately; just an old $150 pump shotgun.

The old farts who modified shotguns for meat shoots love those old guns. I've got a few sticky notes on the wall of my shop with the names of guys looking for JC Higgins pump guns - I bet every one of these folks is collecting Social Security. For some reason these old coots don't seem to have any interest in High Standards. When you mention them, they sort of just gaze past you with a blank stare. Personally, I think it's just a case of a larger than life legend. There must have been some guy who lit the meat shoot world on fire with a Sears gun at some time in the past and the approach stuck.

If you've never seen one of these guns, they're pretty weird. Imagine an old pump gun refitted with a long HEAVY barrel and rifle sights (I think some of them have scopes). I guess the whole idea is to get the maximum number of pellets into a certain size circle on a paper target.

ETA: My want list includes a High Standard riot gun like the one Steve McQueen used in "The Getaway."

Never heard of that movie until you mentioned it.  Googled it and video came up for that scene.  That's a cool street howitzer he has.

I already liked the Higgins / High Standard, but now I like it even more.  Thanks.

Oh man, "The Getaway" is a classic. If you're a gun guy, you've got to watch it. The final hotel shootout is awesome, but the whole thing is a feast of great guns and shooting scenes. But make sure you watch the original version with Steve McQueen and Ali McGraw. The remake with Alex Baldwin and Kim Bassinger sucks in comparison.

Sorry, I don't know how to embed video but here's a link to a video of part of the hotel scene (probably the video the OP saw, but others might like it) : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pDlNIPCirLk

I love the one my father has (16 Gauge). It is what he first started shooting birds with and what I started shooting birds with (and still do).
