I don't have much experience shooting slugs from a shotgun so hoping someone can shed some light on the type of accuracy you can expect from a cylinder bore? I was at the range yesterday shooting slugs at a silhouette target at 50 yards using a 870 with a ghost ring and raised iron sight front post, from a supported bench rest. I am not the greatest shooter but can hold my own, and I realize that a shotgun trigger isn't the best for accuracy but what is realistic for performance? Sorry I don't have a photo of my target but I was sort of spraying it everywhere. Several of my shots using the same POA were several inches apart. I don't expect to make one big ragged hole but would it be reasonable to be able to put a decent group in the 0 section of an IDPA target at that range?
Any help or advice would be appreciated. |

20 inch Mossberg with cyl. bore, ghost ring sights shooting Remington bulk rifled slugs. After dialing in the new ghost rign sights, I put all 5 in a hole the size of a silver dollar from the bench at 50 yds.
The 3' Brennekes opened up to around a 3 inch pattern. Find a slug your shotgun likes and stick with it. |
