I'm looking at doing a 14" 870, and wondering if I need to thread / choke the cut off barrel.

How does your 14" pattern with cylinder bore? (i.e. no choke)

Looking for pattern size of no8 birdshot and 00 buck.  Thanx!

At what distance?

At 10'  itll still hold tight. at 100' maybe not so much.

Federal 12ga LE13200 works great in SBS guns. It has the flight control wad in it..

Is a 14" any different than a 18+" that is sawed off (no choke)? I've got sawed off 18 and 20s that pattern like 30" at 25 yards, but it depends on the load. One load was so bad actually no shot hit the silluete, another could get all 9 or 12 in the black at 25yards.

I have a 14" SBS (cylinder bore) and could not tell you how it patterns as I have not checked it on paper.  I can tell you that I use it quite often in local 3-gun matches and with light birdshot it will knock down steel plates at 60 to 80 feet and with slugs will knock down steel poppers at 80 yards.  With the MRDS it will do it first time every time.

Not too shabby for a cylinder bore SBS,

MDD -

Mine will be very similar to yours, except for the low mount Mesa Tactical PG conversion, and a recoil absorbing stock I made very similar to the Enidine.  Works pretty good with birdshot, but I'll need to change the compression spring to work well with buckshot.

I also use a 14" barreled 870 for 3 gun. It does as well as a 18 inch barreled gun.
