This is a brand new 870 Express Synthetic with a factory 2 round mag extension. When loading 2 3/4" shells, often the final (6th) shell will not load, because the entire 5 round stack is "stuck", meaning I can't push them into the tube any further, as if something is catching or binding. After taking it apart and studying it closely, I'm almost positive that the forward end of the follower is catching on the joint between the mag tube and the extension tube, as if the two don't fit together exactly perfect and therefore create a lip for the follower to snag on. The instructions that came with the mag extension indicate not to over tighten the extension tube, which I am not, but I don't think that matters.
Is this a common problem? I was considering upgrading the follower and spring to this scattergun kit, will this likely solve the problem, or is there a better solution? |

Go here
Click on "Install and Cleaning" on the left hand side. Scroll down to tube extensions, and do what it says. I had the same problem and it fixed it for me. |

There are two indentations at the end of the tube. These have to be flattened. Not ground down, but flattened with a dent raiser before any rounds will pass by that point. I don't see any indentations, and I am sometimes able to get the 6th round in, just not everytime. |

| I can't say for sure since I have never taken down one of the HD 870's with factory installed extension, but if they are using the same flimsy hollow plastic follower they use in the standard Express models, I would immediately suspect that is a large part of the issue as I have seen these hang up on the joint where extension meets mag tube. If so, toss it and get a solid model such as that in the Scattergun kit shown, as the hollow one will eventually deform under pressure if the mag tube is left fully loaded. |
