I have a near and dear 37 (no disconnect) with some minor mods that make it a favorite 'house gun'. (XS Rem 870 sights, slightly shorter LOP, Choate orange follower, swivel studs mounted ala Gunsite mode, and a red smooth face decelerator pad) Light, short & handy, all-steel, shoots and patterns well.
I just noticed a thick wire, about 8mm long, dog legging out from the receiver at a 45 degree angle, just barely touching the trigger group. If the shotgun is upside down, (muzzle away!), it originates from a U shaped notch on the right side (on safe, side). It functions, cycles, and dry-fires just fine. Does not appear to impede function, loading or ejection of dummy shells. Before I go to the range with it though, any Ithaca smart folks here, that could tell me what gives? I could call Ithaca, but where is the fun in that? Thanks in advance. |

Here's an exploded view. See if you can ID the wire:

Looks like the slide stop release spring. Why is the dang thing popping out? It's held in place by the trigger group. Understood, thanks. Why would it pop out though? I have not disassembled it lately, so I either goofed when it was last put together, or it worked it's way out. If it pops out again after I reinstall it (captured by the trigger group), what would be the cause? Thanks! |

The Ithaca 37 is nearly indestructible and I've never heard of this happening. |
