Newbie question for the hive: I wanna change the barrel of the used 870 I picked up. Do I need to check headspace or is it simple swap? It is my first shotgun. Thanks all!

870 barrels are simple, user friendly interchangeable, no special tools or head space checking required. Just observe the following check points:

Make sure the new barrel is the same gauge (12,20, etc.) as the receiver You cannot change the gauge just by just swapping barrels.

The receiver and the chamber length both have a bearing on the longest shell (2.75” ,3”, etc.) you can shoot. We can get more into that detail if you need us to do so.

Thanks GunCat! The current barrel is an 18 inch with a tiny bead. I'm thinking about buying the Remington barrel with the rifle style sights for better sight picture
