Just made the following post in the Ammo section.  Wasn't sure how many of you shotty guys frequent that area so thought I'd post it here as well.  Thanks in advance for any opinions:

Looking for any feedback on this ammo.

My local fun shop had a pretty good deal on this, so I bought some. Since then they've sold out but have more coming. I've convinced myself that I need to back up the truck when the next order comes in. Unfortunately, I've been too busy to seriously test any myself. Opinions???

I guess my reservation is in regards to the white box XM label. Isn't that Federal lingo for a reject of some sort? Perhaps just an overrun or rounds that didn't win the beauty contest. Anyone?

I haven't used any of that buckshot, but Federal M193 ammo is labeled "XM193", and it's not reject ammo of any sort.

I just bought a new Benelli M4 and that was the ammo that I used for the first 25 shots.

I was very happy with it. It cycled flawlessly, the pattern was very consistent, and there was little to no fouling in my gun. The shells were consistent in size and quality and they fit into the mag tube like any other shell.

I would buy more if my shop had more (they had one box left for the whole store/range)

The X prefix is just a labeling prefix to separate military contract ammo from civilian ammo. The two are the same, but just packaged differently. The military gets bland brown cardboard packaging while we get the black and white with all the additional labeling. Some of the XM193 has further designations such as XM193A which further divides how it's packaged, such as if it's loose bulk packed or on stripper clips.

I wonder if it has the flight control wad like the LE127 does. Didn't see it mentioned on the XM box.

Maybe the OP can cut a shell open and take some pictures for us.

There is no military requirement for that type of wadding and I seriously doubt this ammo has it...especially in view of the price.

Finally got a chance to test some of this ammo at the range.  Here are the results:

All rounds shot with a Mossberg 590A1 18.5" barrel.

First round was at 25'.  Left pic is XM127 00.  Right pic is Federal Tactical LE 132 00 (Low recoil w/ FliteControl).
Three shots to the body, one to the head on both.  Both do well, at this range, but the LE 132 clearly has more control.  However, at this range, I would be confident with either.

Second round was at 50'.  Again, Left pic is XM127 00.  Right pic is Federal Tactical LE 132 00.  The difference is more noticeable at this distance.  If you are on target, the LE 132 would certainly be my choice.  Although, again, I do believe the XM 127 could take care of business just fine.

What's inside?

Federal XM 127 00

Federal Tactical LE 132 00 (Low recoil w/ FliteControl).  Copper plated shot as advertised.

Actually, very similar in the inside.  The LE 132 has a much stiffer shell.  Is that what gives it the Flite Control??

"Flite Control" refers to the wad (shot cup).  See that white plastic thing inside the shell?  That's the wad.  Below the wad is the propellant.  Pull the two out (or carefully cut them out) and compare the two.  If you have a Dremel, you can cut the hulls in half from the top down.  This will reveal any construction differences between the two hulls.  My guess is that the LE uses a higher quality hull similar to their Gold Medal line while the XM hull would be more like the hull from their promo loads.

I'm not a ballistician, so my best description of how the Flite Control wad works is that it's simply magic.  Kinda like a fax machine, only louder.

Local fun shop had it for $11.99 per box of 25.  I initially bought 5 boxes (125 rounds).  After going through a box at the range and determining that it was good stuff to blast with, train with and store some long term, I bought another 20 boxes (500 rounds).  Today, I was driving in the area of the fun shop and something took control of my SUV and guided it into the parking lot.  Being the ammo whore that I am, I bought another 5 boxes.

Here is the 20 box haul.

Yup, I've been there a couple times. If I get some time next week I might have to drive over. Thanks!
