For the money, hard to beat.

I have one. It is great for the money.

So do I.  Same gun as the Mossy 500, but with a crossbolt safety.

I had one a long long time ago, got rid of it asap.  The thing would not feed from the magazine unless I stood on my head.  Needless to say that cured me from buying cheap stuff.

Should have sent it back to Mossberg. Their service department does work.

Helluva good field shotgun, and or HD shotgun. Std mag is 5 +1. Remingtons are 4 + 1.

I have a Maverick 88 Security, and I love it. I put a hogue stock and forend on it, and have
rifle sights on it. I'm thrilled with it.

Had one.

For the money, its extremely hard to beat in the Security Configuration for a NIB shotgun. Only sold it because I prefer 870s.

got one, good truck gun

Agreed they are a good value.  I;ve always avoided them because of the Remington style safety.  I much prefer the normal tang mounted position.

Personally, I find the tang safety to be a bit awkward. I prefer the safety on the Maverick.

I had one for about a year and a half before I sold it because I bought a 590A1. Best value pump shotgun in my opinion.

I have one.  Totally reliable.

I took it to Thunder Ranch Defensive Shotgun class, and it ran without a single problem.

Great value for a shotgun. Found a barely used one last year for a little over a c-note. I cut the barrel down to 18.5" and now it's my trunk gun:

I like mine, very multi-purpose

I've had mine for 7 years now without a single problem and with several hundred rounds down the pipe at the Trap and Skeet range.  The shooters out there chuckle at me under their breath until they get schooled by the guy with $150 Walmart shottie!

Defensive barrel and less than the magazine tube length, then 18 1/2.  Look for the 20 Vent Rib Accuchoke barrel. Then you can shoot anything with it. I took mine out with the clay thrower, and with a mod choke, was hitting everything.

It would be nice if Mossberg would offer the cross bolt safety on the 590's.

Yeah, I'd love a crossbolt safety and a lighter trigger on my 590. Other than that, I have no complaints.

I have an older Maverick 88 that is exactly the same as any of my Mossberg 500s. Same safety, same forend, same everything. They are out there.

I got one from the local gun store that had been cut down to 18.5 inches. For a cheap shottie it has worked flawlessly for me

I bought one of the factory bull pups many, many years ago. It still works perfectly and is the perfect size for an in house defensive weapon. No problems at all.

For $139, I'm tempted to go get another one that I don't even need.

$139?  How you gonna beat it?

I have had one for years. It came with a screw in choke barrel and the shorty HD barrel. I hunted with it for quite a few years. It never smoothed out. So I took it apart and cleaned everything up with some buffing compound now as smooth as a well worn 870.

Just the price of a hunting barrel alone is more than the shotgun.  Look at it this way, you can store one in different places at this price.

I gave $20 for one that wouldn't feed about 10 years ago. Didn't even troubleshoot it but sent it in straight to Mossberg. Got it back extremely clean along with a owner's manual and cable lock. It has been 100% reliable with everything from slugs to #8, 2 3/4" and 3" ever since. I've done nothing to it but add a sling and shoot it. Considering the purchase price, sling and shipping to Mossberg I'm in it for around $50. When I can find another one for the same price I'll buy it in a heartbeat.

Geez, if there was an Acadamy Sports around here I would buy another for $139 without blinking an eye.

I just paid $120 for a new in the package matte finished, rifled bore with cantalever scope mount 500 barrel and thought I got a GREAT deal, for just the barrel!

I've been thinking about getting one for a while. I have a 870 with a sidesaddle and I'm putting a light and sling on it, but I want something simple for traveling. Maybe I'll pick it up. A local shop has the Security model for $189.

Buy the field model, then add the 18.5 barrel for $74.00 later. Now you've got a bargain that you can use everywhere.

I bought one last year. It shoots everything from birdshot to 3" slugs. no complaints
