Can someone here help me out and give me the lowdown on these? In the market for a good auto for hunting, without spending an arm and leg.
How durable/reliable are they? i would only be using it occasionally for the South Georgia dove season.

I seem to have a good one. Several hundred rounds with no problrems at all. Keep it oiled and it runs like a top. There are some bad reports on the m2000. Mostly the older ones. The newer models are much better. If you get one make sure it's a current model. Take a look here: http://www.benelliusa.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=18

The Stoeger forum linked above was enough to keep me away when I was looking a few months ago.

I bought an M2000 in black with an 18.5" barrel about 3 months ago.  I have put over 300 rounds through it with zero problems.  With the length I bought probably only good for home defense and zombies.  I read all the bad reviews after I purchased and I was really nervous it would not run.  I have run birdshot, buckshot and slugs; it will eat anything I put in it.  I wish it had a larger capacity than 4+1.  It also has more recoil than I was expecting for a semi-auto shotgun.

These guys make a mag extension for the Stoeger.

Great link thank you.  I have an 18.5" barrel so the tube will stick out past the barrel an inch or two.  Will that be a problem?

No, you'll just get some carbon fouling on the tube.  Contact them and see if they can do one in a shorter length for you.

From what I have read, they have the same inertia drive as the Benelli. I currently shoot a Benelli, and as one other poster said, the recoil is actually pretty stout. Not as bad as say a pump or single shot, but deffinitly wrose then a gas driven. I have shot my Benelli right after a saiga 12 (gas driven) and there is a difference. You get a "double hit" on your shoulder. It happens very quickly and you only really notice it if you shoot another Non-Benelli right before or after.

I have not shot a stoeger M2000 series shotgun, But I have held and fondled them in the store. They deffinitly are not up to par, quality wise as a Benelli, but they arent bad IMO. They should be very reliable, as it is bassically a Benelli in a less expensive shell with a less "high end" company name on it.

Good luck with your purchase and as always, pics are required after buying
