| I currently have an Saiga 12 and i understand the operating principles and how it works. My question is what are the other operating systems for semi auto shotguns, the saiga uses a piston, but what about a rem 1100?? anybody have any good videos explaining the operation and how it works? |

So are most tubular fed auto loaders piston systems? are they the most reliable semi auto shot guns? thanks for the pics that is perfect No. Common gas guns include the Remington 1100 & 1187; the Saiga-12; Browning Gold & Silver; Winchester SX1, SX2, & SX3; and FN SLP. The Browning Auto-5 and Franchi AL-48 are long-recoil systems. The barrel moves along with the bolt. This system is not gas operated. Then there are the inertia driven Benellis (and their budget offering, the Stoeger M2000). This system also isn't gas operated. |
FTW
Gas systems will freeze in cold conditions. After taking them from a warm house to a below zero field to hunt geese, the condensation will start to give you cycling problems when they foul any of the gas parts. This explains it with pictures ETA- Speaking of gas gun, have you guys seen the new Remington VersaMax? |
| I agree with the above. I had alot of problems getting my 1100 to cycle in colder conditions, my Benelli SBE II never skips a beat. Ya the VersaMax looks almost identical to the SBE II and is almost the same price. Its supposed to reliably cycle any size round as well. Saw it in the new Cabelas Waterfowl or the new Macks Prairie Wings catalog..cant remember which |

A few are recoil operated (I'd put the Benelli 'Inertial' system in this category, as well as any/all Browning A-5 variants)... Don't know any that are direct gas, although there's probably at least one... |
