| I have an 870 Express which has the MIM extractor. I bought a steel replacment and went to change the extractor. The change went fine, but it seems to me that the new extractor has a tendency to bind just a bit. Will that go away with time or do I have a bad extractor? I am thinking about taking the extractor and putting it on some wet sandpaper and taking a bit off of the side as it seems just a bit wide. If I do that will I be putting stress on the extractor where it will break on me at a future time or will I be ok? By the way I have not shot it yet since I changed the extractor. |
| Remove the extractor and the plunger and with a small file hit both sides of the slot in the bolt that the extractor fits into. It only takes a little bit so don't over do it. I then dab some cold blue on the area I filed. I have had to do this for about the past six months as the solid steel extractors are coming a little thicker, also they have been squared and not tappered at the back and to the top. This was necessary as to fit the contor of the bolt. You may find it will scratch the inside of the receiver. Not a big issue but I also file the back down some to prevent this. It is a pain in the butt when you are installing a dozen of these a week and very time consuming. I did four today and was fusing the entire time. I have complained to Remington and I will be at the factory week after next and it is on my list of gripes... |

Honestly, if a part such as an extractor doesn't require some fine tuning/fitting to work properly, I'd be surprised. Stone it or run it over some fine(600+ grit) sandpaper backed by a flat surface..checking frequently for proper fit...to eliminate whatever problems you're having.
*I am severely inebriated, so if something doesn't make sense, ask and I'll clarify when I've slept it off. |
