Hi all I just bought a mossberg 500 18.5 bbl for HD. I want to put a tri-rail fore end on it but mine is the style without the nut to remove the factory one. I've searched around and even emailed Mossberg to find out how to get this done having no luck. So if anyone can point me in the right direction I'd appreciate it thanx.

Are you absolutely sure you bought a 500. It sounds like you bought a Maverick 88. The 88 is very similar to a 500, but has several differences including an all molded forend and a cross bolt safety?

I just bought a 500 from Cabela's, same story.  I ordered a new action tube and nut from Brownells so that I could install a Surefire forend.

I've seen several reports of newer Mossbergs shipping with Maverick style forends.  Either Mossberg is cheaping out, or having supplier issues.

As soon as Remington makes a pump shotgun without their ridiculous cross-trigger guard safety and moves the slide release to the wrist where it belongs I'll be first in line.
