| A local gun store has a used, fixed-stock SPAS-12 for sale and I am looking for opinions and advice regarding them. What would be a reasonable price for one in good condition? I know the collapsible-stock versions are worth more, but I also understand there are other factors in determining valuation (such as shell capacity, which I don't recall). I do know it has the push-button safety but I've heard scuttlebutt that these guns can still be unsafe regardless? As I understand it, importation was stopped in 2000, but are there any figures regarding how many were actually imported? This is the first one I've ever seen, so it has me a bit interested. Any insights are appreciated! |
| Hmm, yeah I found it. Seems like a lot of people are having issues with reliability and jamming. I guess that could be reason for pause. For me, it'd be more of a collectible than anything but I'd still hate to spend any significant amount of money on something that was essentially junk. |

I've had several Spas 12s ove the years. There was a safety recall years ago in which the early paddle type safety was recalled. Owners were supposed to send them in to be switched to the more common push button safety. Not many did as you still see the paddle safeties around. So, I would on it if it had the paddle safety.
As for the gun itself, do you have the plastic fixed stock or the earlier removable wood stock? The wood stocked versions are more valuable than the plastic fixed stocks. The gun is ok. They look cool. But they are heavy and complicated to operate. For a fixed stock, you shouldn't pay more than $600, depending on condition. Hope this helps. |
