Picked up a like new factory +2 extension for my Police. Price was great. Here are the questions:
1. Is the factory spring ok or do I need a different one?
2. Do I use the factory spring end cap inside the extension?

Thanks guys.

Yes, use the spring that came with it.  What you are calling the spring end cap is the follower and yes use that.   These are designed for your weapon and that tube extension kit and there are tens of thousand just like them working fine every day.   I am a Remington armorer and what I am telling you is correct.   A bunch of guys are going to jump on your question and give you other advise and if it is any different then the above, it is not the best advise.

Do you use the factory 4 round spring with a +2 extention?  No, you need the longer spring designed for the extension.

Do you use the "spring end cap" by placing it inside the magazine extension? No, the mag extension eliminates the magazine spring retainer.

Watch the EE. The blued police extensions are rare but occasionally they do turn up. I just bought one two weeks ago from the EE. Also check Gun Broker.

did you mean the magazine follower or the split metal (on my version) end cap (magazine spring retainer)...?

I was referring to the split cap the the spring rests in. It only goes into the extention to where the bolt recess is.

As stated earlier, that is the magazine spring retainer and it is not used with the magazine extensions.

John, get your owners manual out and read it.  Learn the parts of your weapon as this will assist guys in answering your questions.   The is no spring end cap and I have no idea what you mean by bolt recess.  Knowing the names of the parts of your weapon will also help you if you have to order parts.

I still think you are aksing about the factory spring that came with the tube extension kit, correct?  And I still think you are asking about the follower, that bright orange follower, correct?  And my response is correct based on what I think you are asking.

This has to be what you are asking as there can be no way you are asking if you still use the 4 shot spring and leave the retainor in when adding the tube extension kit.

Just curious, the extension came with a spring correct?  Use the one that came with the extension as the original will be too short...  That is what I am reading from the this post.

Yes, he is talking about the magazine spring retainer and he's saying if he puts it inside the mag extension tube it will only go as far as the crimp in the extension for the mag extension clamp screw ("Bolt recess").

It took me a minute to figure out the "bolt recess" part. But there is only one "Bolt" used in the magazine and it's a screw actually. Pluys it fits in what a novice might call a "recess" thus "bolt recess."

Ok - the part is called the magazine spring retainer. It only goes into the factory +2 extension up to where the bracket bolt "groove" is. Is it needed with the extension?
