Yes, SBS is cool, it's great, we know. Let's set the coolaid aside for a minute.
I am torn. Benelli M4 SBS w/collapsible stock, factory built vs. Benelli M4 18.5" (standard) w/collapsible stock and full-length tube and Aimpoint T1 in ADM Low mount (LaRue's mounts won't last on an M4S90's rail or I would go with them.) _______________ SBS Pro's: Badass. Badass. Worth saying it twice. More maneuverable in my appartment. Badass. Puts me in more of an exclusive club and WILL get attention. No choke-tubes to worry with. SBS Con's: Expensive (money is no object for this comparison...nevermind that). Waiting time. Cannot cross state lines to shoot w/o filing plans with BATF (I cross state lines to shoot often, this is an issue for me). -2 mag capacity. No choke-tubes so buckshot at longer range will suffer and bird-shot in a survival/pest killing situation will suffer greatly. Shorter sight-radius for slug-shooting. The Man knows me...and my gun. Muzzle-flash/noise (I never owned one, dunno if it matters...)? _______________ Regular M4's Pro's: +2 mag capacity. Chokes offer versitility. Longer sight-radius for slug shooting. Take it anywhere "combat" shotguns are allowed. No notes needed. The Man doesn't know when I sell it, no paperwork is needed to sell it, it might even fall out of my boat some day. Not as much muzle-flash/noise. Regular M4's Con's: Badass, but not as badass as a 14" SBS M4. Choke tubes must be patterned, snugged down, etc. Not as maneuverable. While still exclusive with the collapsible stock, etc., it is definitely more pedestrian. _______________ Consider the above before answering the poll, please! |

Get one of each. Use the SBS when close to home and the other when out of state. You always need a backup weapon....... Meh, I can only afford one. When I graduate and am raking in those $3,000 per 2wk paychecks, okay, but right now, no. I cannot. I understand this is the "correct" answer...but it is not the "most correct" answer, as my instructors would say. |

I say get the SBS. But I have one question...
Where did you find the M4 Entry's with the collapsible stock? Or even the standard 18.5 M4 with collapsible stock? I've been looking high and low for one and haven't been able to locate any. Impactguns.com had some a while back but now all they carry are fixed pistol grip stocks. |

I'd go with the SBS and here is why:
1. They ARE the shit no matter how you slice it. 2. Provided you have at least 2-3 weeks notice, the ATF "approval" (I wanna vomit) is not that difficult. Its one form and takes less than 5 min to finish. 3. With "Flight Control Wad" Federal ammo my M2 SBS still patterns better than most other full size shotguns that have chokes. In my limited experience, the cylinder barrel of the SBS really likes this ammo. 4. At a recent class I was consistently tagging steel with slugs at 100, 200, and even 250 yards once your sights are dialed in with the specific ammo. 5. They are really easy to manipulate indoors if you are using it for HD. 6. If things get so bad that Obama's minions come knocking on my door then the social structure as we know it has likely fully dissolved, and in my book all bets are off anyway. At that point I wouldn't give a crap what the gov knew about. Good luck with your decision. You really cant go wrong either way. |

If I pass on the SBS, I will post up the contact info of the seller if they are okay with it. |
If crossing the state lines and using it to hunt with regularly (with using bird shot and such) then I say go with the full length. Although you're right in the M4 Entry is totally kick ass wicked sick, it goes against your intended usage. I am actually fine in using my M4s90 with 18" barrel as a "room clearing" gun, its a little bit more unwieldy than a short carbine or an SBS, but the barrel isn't really that extreme in extra length. A Gun store here in Canada has I think 3 factory M4 Entry's in stock.... I would love to get an extra barrel for mine, even if it relinquished it to a range gun only. ETA you could always do that too... Get an extra 18 inch barrel, and a tube extension for it. That way you only really have 1 hassle in letting the ATF know when you transport it. You get the extra chokes and length for long range and hunting stuff. you also dont need to buy it right away. A little more reasonable a "get both" answer |
| If someone offered me $5000 for my M4 SBS with adj. stock I would happily turn them down. I will never EVER sell it off at any price. It's the only weapon in my collection that I feel this way about. It's the perfect tool for what I use it for. Besides that, it's fun as hell. I always felt the regular M4 was way too long, while the SBS seems just right. Being limited to 7 rounds in the gun doesn't bother me, if the extra 2 rounds is important to you, get the stock M4. |

you can fill out one 5320.20 per year...just date it from 1-1-10 to 12-31-11 and list the state you'll be visiting all year...or traveling back and forth from... i voted SBS, badass... This board is about to cause the expendature of a chunk of change. It hinges on if my friends can work a Trust up for me. I would prefer a Trust over CLEO and all that crap. That is just a pain. I want a Trust. If I can get the Trust done for cheap/reasonable, I will probably go SBS. If not, I most likely will not. I am "iffy" on whether or not the local CLEO will sign off on it and I am NOT going to have $$ tied up in something that I cannot get because of some public official. |
| I used a trust, I just asked in my HTF for a florida attorney that could do one, and actually met with an arfcommer and his wife who made one so my brother, myself, and anyone I wanted to add to my trust could use my stuff. good luck man. and be sure to post pics!! |

Don't waste money on a Lawyer to make a trust. You can buy WILL MAKER software for probably $50.... (on eBay or other places) and crank out your own Trust in about 15 minutes!! Follow the questions it will ask and when done, print in in trilicate and get your signature notorized on it..... DONE and you just saved getting fingerprinted, asking/begging the CLEO to sign off etc..... plus... if you want, you can list your Dad, Brother, Nephew, Girlfriend, Wife etc, as Trustees.... then they are leagl to handle and even have the NFA item in thier sole possesion.. you die, they are good to go!!
Many pluses to trusts! Quoted:

For cryin in the beer!!!
$15 shipped!! http://cgi.ebay.com/Quiken-Will-Maker-Premium-2008-Brand-NEW-Sealed_W0QQitemZ220499135571QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_Software?hash=item3356c5cc53 It makes "Living Trusts". As I mentioned... SO simple it almost hurts! Get it and I can walk you through the steps. I did it and so have thousands of other NFA owners. It's simple and has some great benefits, like some mentioned above. |

Trust is the way to go. Avoid the whole "LEO song and dance" if you can. I paid an attorney
$600 to do mine because I'm basically lazy and didn't want to accidentally screw the paperwork up. Not sure you really need to do this though. LOTS of people have done it themselves with the above method. Now the trust is completed I just photocopy it, fill out a new SBS or SBR form, and write a $200 check. Done...except for the 2-3 month wait of course. Cheers |

It's simple and has some great benefits, like some mentioned above. I may be young, but I am old school. I want a person to do it. I won't be paying any $600 for it though. I just don't feel comfortable trusting a $15 generic software program with my freedom and future. I want a living, breathing person who is current on everything. I am teetering on whether or not to make the buy. If a trust is easily obtainable, I will probably go for it. If not, I kinda like the full-size M4S90 just fine too. The only real thing the SBS has is the "cool factor", for me. |
