| Hi I just purchased a used according the the barrel 1981 wingmaster. I noticed that it feels like its hanging up on something when you rack the slide. I took it apart and cleaned it and notice some serations on the face of the hammer that the carrier key is hitting when its cocking the hammer. Anyone know if this is caused by wear or is this normal. |
| Well it is almost 30 years old so I say that is very normal. The binding can simply be the action bars. Remove the forend tube assembly and look at the action bars. They should be parallel with each other and not twisted in any way. If they do not look correct a new forend tube assembly may be all you need. We all tend to torgue the forend when we rack a pump. Some more then others so the actions bars can take a beating over the years. Check on this and e-mail me if it does not correct the issue. It is difficult to say what a problem is without having the weapon and checking the action so I always start the mostlikely thing. |

It looks like the pice the bolt rides on (I thinks it called the carrier ) is rubbing on the serrations on the face of the hammer and you can feel this when you rack it and it cocks the hammer. Just dont know if the serrations or casued by many years of wear or if it was made like that. |
| I am away from the shop and my high speed desk top and on a lap top with dial up and a 19KBS speed so no way the pictures will load. I will pull them up tomorrow and check them out. You can also pull the trigger assembly and manually cock the hammer back and see if there is anything obstructing the hammer plunger and spring. Even a small partical of sand or gunk can interfere with the hammer depressing the plunger correctly. |
| Not being able to see the pictures I am not sure what the issue with the hammer was. There will be some wear on the hammer but sounds like this was not normal. If you corrected the issue with the file and did not remove to much material the hammer should strike the fireing pin just fine. You simply have to shoot it now to find out. The other issue is what cause it and if that has not been been corrected then the problem will continue. I will look at the pictures tomorrow when I am back in the shop and will be able to tell you somthing then. taking a file to any part of a weapon that you are unsure of it not a good thing but sounds like this time may have been a temp fix or even the cure. |

Thank you for taking the time to help with this issue. My reasoning to take the file to it was if I messed it up to bad I was going to replace it with the police model trigger assembly. I just need to know what caused it in the first place to prevent it from happing again. http://i856.photobucket.com/albums/ab130/ryan1723/gun011.jpg http://i856.photobucket.com/albums/ab130/ryan1723/gun003.jpg |
| Better pics make me think it was a manufacturing defect. IMO, the hammer should have been hard enough that a file would just barely cut it, at least on the surface. If it were mine, I'd replace the hammer, and stone a slight radius on the bolt carrier edges that contact it. |
