Depends a lot on what and how many you currently have IMO.

(ETA:  Or is the 870 you will be picking up your first/only shotgun and you're asking if your second one should be a semi? On second look, I think that's what you meant.

i have had shotguns before but i more or less picked this one up for hunting/tactical use, the next one i was strictly wanted to use it for tactical use
and was wondering should it be a semi auto versus pump

i only have the 870 for now

What is the second shotgun going to be used for?

As stated, the intended use determines a lot.  A pump for HD hands down and sport shooting and hunting depends on what you prefer.  Your going to get a lot of auto guys telling you that an auto for HD is fine.  I will not stake my life on an auto loading shotgun.  They can.  I will not argue with them as it is their life.....

+1 A pump is a lot more reliable than an auto loader. It is also a hell of a lot cheaper than an auto-loader.
