I quickly found out that shooting a shotgun with a pistol grip only is not the most accurate setup.  Although the fixed stock works, I have found that it is just a little too long for me.  It works but it's at the very upper limit for comfortable operation.

What is the best replacement stock that will give me a slightly shorter stock and, if possible, a pistol grip to grab onto?

Thank you in advance,

CSP

My Mossberg stocks are all cut down factory stocks, except one with a Mesa/Endine stock. That said I don't use the Mesa that much due to the location of the safety. You could also try the Speedfeed IVs.

The absolutely best Mossberg stock that meets your requirements is the Choate Mark 5, which has a very comfy 1" cushioned butt pad, an ergonomic pistol grip and a great textured feel. It has a user selectable LOP from 13.5"-to-14.5" with the issued spacer blocks. I have this Choate P/G stock on three different Mossbergs and it is totally top-shelf. I had the factory P/G (ugh!), the factory synthetic and the ATI 5-position collapsible stocks, but the Choate is by far the best and at $74, you can't go wrong.

HUGE +1 for the Choate Mk. 5! By far, the best "feeling"
stock I've ever used, and I've literally tried them all.

Here it is, in case you're curious and, you Mossberg guys,
don't be to hard on me for having it on an 870. I'm a fan of
both. This just happens to be the picture I have on hand.

I use a Knoxx Spec Ops stock on mine.  Got the pistol grip, fully adjustable (collapsible, like an AR stock) length of pull, and recoil-reducing to boot.  Love it.

The factory stock I had though, before, I had cut an inch or so off of it.  Made it alot more to my liking.  Was easy to do.  Took off the pad, cut nice and straight, screwed the pad back on, trimmed the bottom of it to match the contour of the stock.............done.

My 590 came with a  standard Speedfeed (without the pistol grip), but it too is just a pinch too long.  Was out slug shooting yesterday and found that under heavy recoil, the Speedfeed didn't keep shells in the stock long either.  Oh well, on to the Knox or the Choat.
