I am starting to shoot in Tactical or 3 gun matches and I am currently using a Mossberg 590A1.  I am wanting to switch to an autoloader, and I do see alot of Remington 1100's being used.  What is the difference between the 1100 & 11-87 and what is recommended for reliability?  Please advise.

The only thing I know is one costs more than the other... I want to hear the difference as well when I start wanting an auto-loader.

1187s can take 3" shells, the 1100 only takes 2 3/4 inch shells.  There are a lot more after market accessories for the 1100.

I have two 1100s.  One is the 1100 TAC 2 with a 18" barrel, and the other is the 1100 Tac 4 with the 22" barrel.

I have a few friends that do 3 gun matches, and they shoot the Tac 4 with the longer barrel, higher capacity (9 shells), and because it comes with three chokes to adjust patterns.

I love my Tac 2 and Tac 4.  Take a look at gunbroker, and you can get them for under $750.

For the cost of a Remington I would look at a FN or Winchester Practical shotgun.

They did make some 1100 magnums, I have one and even with the 1 hole mag barrel it still fires the cheap walmart ammo no problem.

Depends on your budget. Get a Benelli if you can afford it; if not get a Saiga. You could also go with Remington 11-87, or Mossberg 930.

This decision needs to be determined by which division the OP wants to shoot in. A Saiga will immediately put him in Open due to the fact it uses detachable magazines.

+1. For the money, you can't beat a FN. I've been shooting one for 2 years in 3 gun and couldn't be more satisfied.

I'll put in another +1 for the Remington 1100 TAC-4. I love mine!

You could also buy an old beater 1100 and build it up to TAC-4 specs pretty easily and pretty cheaply. I'm in the process of doing another 1100 that I picked up for about $200 "well used".

Mossberg 930?

+1 You may not be seeing a lot of Remy for a reason.  I hear bad things about Remy's in three gun.  The Mossy had a front sight issue but I here that's fixed.

All armchair and net warrior advice here but I am going to purchase a 930 SPX this fall.
