I bought a used Remington 11-87 12 gauge on the EE a month or two ago.  I haven't gotten to the range yet and I won't be able to go for a while.

I have a bunch of orange training rounds that I want to feed through it to make sure it works ok.  How do I do this?  When I pull the bolt back it locks open, which isn't what happens upon firing a normal round.  Do I just keep locking it open and releasing it repeatedly?  The rounds don't feed consistently when I do, and I can't tell if that is because I am doing something wrong or if the shotgun is.

Thanks.

Are you holding the trigger while you cycle the action, or chambering a round, pressing the trigger, releasing it, and then cycling the action?

I am releasing the trigger before cycling the action.
