A few years ago I got ahold of an 870 that had a Remington express (plastic) trigger group in the gun. I installed a Wilson Extended safety, and of course it didn't work, but I didn't discover this until after I lost the old safety. It fits, but is extremely hard to actuate.

Does anyone know were I can buy an original safety, or does anyone have one laying around that they don't need?

Are you talking about the saftey that use to take the little green key to lock or unlock?  If so, you can have mine, just IM me an address and I'll mail it out.  If you need the little safety key/tool, let me know and I'll throw that in there too.

The Wilson safety should work if you replace the detent ball and spring with standard one.  Brownells has the parts #43 and 44 on the 870 schematic.

I like the Vang Comp Big Head Safety but that Wilson should work too.
