Do a search, there have been a few threads on here about the M3 within the past month or two.

They are good guns, same reliability and simplicity of the M1/M2's I.D. system, but with the option to use a pump if your using low brass target loads, or less than lethal rounds.

It will be a LITTLE but heavier than the M2 is, but it opens the gun up to many more choices as far as what you can shoot in it.

I own both the M2 and M3 (love the M3 BTW), I would say the only reason to spend the extra money would be A. You need the pump action or B. You just want to.

Like what was noted, in semi neither will out perform the other, so I would say unless there is the need/desire I wouldn't call the M3 anymore practical than the M1 M2.

This. M1s and M2s will serve you perfectly well in 99.9% of cases.

I do have a M3, which was bought for two reasons:

1) Badass factor of being able to switch to pump.
2) I got it for $900 OTD, LNIB.

My friend is looking into buying one of these. I found him one, but I wanna run a serial check to see if it's pre ban or post ban. Can someone help me with that? Serial is M245xxx

I have a very old M3 and I'd say its one of the best shotguns Ive owned.  It has about a zillion rounds through it and still runs perfect.

I can not vouch for the accuracy of this information, but here is what I've read. Two Sources

the Benellies are date codes by the two letters on the bottem of the reciver.    on mine its date coded BA which is 1991,  BB would be 1992    BC would be 1993  ect ect ect.   if i reamber correctly  that stamp is also on the barrel. you may have to take it off to see it thought.
