Gun: 870 Tactical Desert Recon 18" (Speedfeed I and SureFire 618FA), previously fired ~750 rounds, no issues.

Relevant Ammo: Federal and Winchester value packs; Winchester Ranger 00 Low Recoil. All worked fine previously.

Problem: Action gets caught up during extraction after firing each round. Bolt group stops exactly halfway at ejection port. Needs excessive force to break it free and bring bolt group completely to rear. Casing will often remain partially in the barrel and rim is always ripped almost off due to extractor force. Action cycles normally with slide release.

ETA: Upon further inspection with snapcaps, the round gets caught up on the front edge of the ejector.

Any ideas guys?

If shells are sticking in the chamber polish it. There is plenty of info on the net on how to put together a rig.

This is a common problem with the 870. I guess no one complains to Remington about it so it keeps on being a problem.

Check the guides rods that attach to the bolt to make sure their not bent. I bent a rod on accident and it gave me the same problems as your having.

Also check for any obstructions in the trigger mechanism.

Pump Shotguns are simple, so the problem is simple.

Pictures of XM8's shotgun...

Something appears to be broken..... Can somebody with a working 870 confirm that the front of the ejector spring does not look like this?

I just looked at a new Express and it doesn't look like that. His top rail is shorter and  looks broken.

I am looking at my 870 right now and yours is definately broken.  The "rail" on the top of that piece should be longer than the bottom.

Thanks for the help! It's not so obvious in person but the pictures make it clear the end of the ejector is broken off. Running the gun with snapcaps make it clear it gets lodged on the top rail after a trigger pull + pump. I'm rather disappointed right now because like a previous poster noted, pumps are simple, problem is simple, but this solution doesn't seem so simple. I definitely didn't expect this on a midrange Remington 870. I don't run my guns operator hard but they are far from "safe queens".

Is this a common problem? I know the ejector isn't a user replaceable part, but must I send it back to Remington under warranty or can a gunsmith fix the problem?

It is not a common problem. Looks like a job for Remington. They should cover it.
