I recently aquired a new Rem factory 18.5" brl.  The outside diameter of the rear of the brl is larger than the brl it replaced. So large that a speedfeed II fore end that worked great with the old brl will not funtion with the new brl. A surefire forend has enough clearance but the speedfeed II isnt even close.

Just something to be aware of

Good info thanks for posting it. You are talking about the LE forends?

Yes.

Speedfeed II LE forend.

Worked with a 1990 Express 18"
Worked with a 1995 Police 18"
Did not work with a 2008 18.5" Police

On a related note a friend has a 5 or 6 year old Wilson combat mag extention and the cut out in the sling plate wont fit the new 18.5" Police brls either. We got our brls a couple months apart and these are the two issues that have come up.

Interesting... I recently installed a Speed Feed fore-end on ny 870
that I've been trying to beat into submission. It's on a +/- '06-production 870, FWIW.

It binds quite stiffly at the end of its 'stroke.' I can force it,
but it just isn't as  smooth as an well-used 870 should be.

Should I just keep wringing it out at the range, or just grab the Dremel?

i recently had the same problem on a gun i put together.  870, 20 inch factory rifle sighted barrel, speed feed forend.  took out a knife and cut a large amount of material, and sanded it smooth.  worked great

I put an 870 together with a 20 inch remchoke rifle sighted barrel (part number 24549) with a speed feed forend and have no problems with it.

I did just that but after fitting 6 times it still wasn't right so I gave up on it and got a 870P synthetic forearm; Went on in 2minutes! IMO, Don't waste your time trying to dremel it.

I just put three on last week and they all fit fine.

One 870 was from the late 90s and the other two were new.
