My 590`s spring has seen better days. Its rusty, and sometimes has probs feeding the last round without holding the gun at a 45 degree angle.

The orange follwer when dirty helps to slow the feeding process.

I`d like to replace both...Especially the plastic orange follower with a steel one. Where can I get these parts?

brownells had the spring as for the follower, I went with the Vang comp SS follower from brownells as well. Also if you know of any other guns that need a little attention, get it all while you shop... especially springs pins ect. Since there is a slight fee for the regular John Q Public. I order from them about every 6 months for misc things.

Will the springs will fit any length shotgun tube? I`ve got the eight shot on my 590. Same with the follower right? Fit any length tube and still have my eight shot capacity?

The Wolff spring and the Nordic follower are both excellent. The Wolff spring will need to be trimmed to length and the Nordic follower, while excellent, will not work in the 590 where tube space is tight. It will cost you a round. For the 590 you need a shorter follower like the Vang or the Brownells brand.

I would trim the Wolff spring to about 6" past the muzzle.

Is there any difference between a stainless follower and an aluminum one? Same performance, tolerances?

No difference other than obvious, stainless is more durable, aluminum is lighter.

Actually.....that was only true of the early followers....the hole was too small to let the spring compress inside the follower. That has been since fixed, in fact, anyone that has one of the older followers, can call us up and get a replacement.

NICE! This site is the best! I love how the manufacturers show up here and respond when there are questions or issues with their products.

I have experience with the Nordic followers and I have a new one right now. They are excellent followers for some shotguns but cause the loss of one round in some. I have tried them in many different shotguns. In  the Mossberg 930 SPX and the 590 where tube space is tight the Nordic followers lowers the capacity by one round. This is also the case with other shotguns I have tried them in that are tight on tube space.

The shorter 1/2" to 3/4" open end hollow followers are the only ones that will work in these shotguns to allow maximum capacity.

I am a FFL dealer and I make custom tube extensions.

This is what I believe happens with your follower inside a tube extension so you can tell the ones who designed and tested it.

As you know your open end hollow follower has a over all length of 1.175".

When the spring is compress in a tube extension the coils don't stack in a completely straight line because the tube diameter is larger than the spring. Some of the coils get pushed out sideways and your follower being longer gets caught on some of those coils before the spring can completely compress inside the follower. This only matters in shotguns that are tight on tube space.

It doesn't happen with shorter hollow open end followers.  You can see why.
