I am looking to get a red dot for my shotgun. This will basically get put on during deer season and taken back off again afterwards. So counting sighting it in every year, and then using it, if might see 30 rounds.
What sights should I look into? I don't want to spend a lot on it, but would like something that can handle the recoil so-so.

I have a Busnell Holoscope on my Mossberg. It is the "civilian" version of the militarized EOTech. It is a true "laser holographic" sight and it's like using a very powerful laser sight on your shotgun... without sending a powerful external laser beam out of your shotgun. The laser beam is actually a "virtual" 3-D hologram wholly contained inside the sight housing. Once you get used to using it, they get addictive. The target pickup is much faster than a conventional red dot, wihich should be important for the shotgunner.

I'd say just get a bushnell or tasco.

something like a pro-point:

They may run ya 50-80 dollars (i dont know for sure) but they're decently built, and should hold up to some good recoil forces (with good rings)

Bushnell Holo or Kobra or Eotech.

The Cheapest I would go is a Bushnell Trophy. Mine are made in South Korea and have been decent so far on .223s but I have not had them on a 12ga yet. The only ones I have read about that have had problems on the 12ga is the red/green multi retical ones but I have not heard any consistant problems with just the plain red dot versions. I would like to the multi retical one for my rifle though.

Well, thanks for the quick replies,
what do you think of truglo red dots? They are in the same price range as you are describing.

I've never seen one in person, but they seem to be okay.

They say "shock resisatant to 1000 G's" for "TRADITIONAL RED•DOT SIGHTS", so it should be able to hold up to a shotgun.

Honestly, i'd say its as good a bet as any, and they have the dual illumination colour, and the multi-reticle versions, which would probably be good options for hunting.

I just watched a video on youtube of a kid shooting clays with a 870 HD with an Eotech 512. Does anyone use these shooting clays or birds in flight?

I plan on using an aimpoint once i figure out where to zero it at for clays.
