So I went to the lake with some buddies this weekend and I brough along my Blaster plus several different brands of 00 Buck to test pattern and see which was the best for my shotty.
Gun Used: Remington 870 w/ 18.5" barrel
Ammo Tested 12 Gauge 00 Buckshot: Royal Rio (cheap crap I picked up at the gun show 10rds for $4) Federal Powershok Hornady TAP Federal LE w/ Flight Control Wad
I added a shiny quarter to each picture to help you judge the size of the pattern
Round 1 - 27 feet Royal Rio:
Federal Powershok:
Hornady Tap:
Federal LE w/ FC:
Round 2 - 42 feet Royal Rio:
Federal Powershok:
Hornady TAP:
Federal LE w/ FC:
We were starting to lost light so I only took one shot in Round 3 which was at 65 feet with the OBVIOUS winner Federal LE w/ FC:
So I will for sure be buying more and more of this wonderful ammo. It's surprisingly cheap too. I wish I had more time and a few more brands to try out, but this was fun and about what I expected results-wise. I highly recommend that every one of you who use a shotgun for home defense try this as well to see which ammo patterns the best in your shotgun. Some might want to use the ammo with the medium pattern. I personally want the tightest patterns possible. Most 00 Buck is sold in boxes of 5 and prices range from $2 - $7. So its also a cheap and fun way to spend the afternoon while learning more about your HD tool.
