Guys, I would like 1 shotgun to serve several purposes. Home defense, turkey hunting and possibly adding a rifled slug barrel if I ever get lucky enough to do some gun deer hunting in IL. I was looking at a mossy 835 tactical. Can one easily add an effective light to this for home defense? What about a rifled slug barrel? Magazine extensions? I am going to try and post a link. Would this be a good multi-purpose shotty?

One issue I have with mossbergs and pistol grip stocks is that it makes the tang mounted safety incredibly difficult to manipulate with a firing grip.  While I think the tang safety is great for a conventional stock, when a protruding pistol grip stock is added, it negates any advantage the tang safety has.

I would go with a 20" 870 if I wanted one shotgun to do everything.  The amount of aftermarket accessories for the 870, combined with the modularity, makes it a superior gun to the mossberg 500 series of shotguns.

The safety is not an issue for me, but aftermarkt parts could be. Where is a good place to look for a mag extension, light and other parts for the gun in the link?

I have used a few shotguns over the years but for a Do-All shotgun the Remington 870 Express is really tough to beat!  There are all kinds of barrel options and accessories and the extras tend to be cheaper then others.  My HD shotgun is really just my 12-gauge SLUG gun with the addition of a weapon light.  It is a 20-inch smooth bore with rifled sights.

For turkey, I swap barrels and use a 21-inch Vent Rib with choke tubes.  I also have 26, 28, and 30-inch Vent Rib barrels with choke tubes as well as a fully rifled barrel that I personally don't use as my Berinikee slugs shoot as well as those $$$ sabot slugs that needed the rifled barrel.

I actually have two Rem 870s (or is it three ) but for the money these are cheap but extremely robust guns and parts are everywhere.  They are also easy to work on with  a few tools.

I use them with everything from light 2 2/3 target loads to monster 3-inch slugs and I have never wished for more capability.  Mossberg vs Remington is like arguing about Ford vs Dodge but everybody knows Fords are better
