I just picked up a LNIB 870P. It has 2 issues which are related. First, the action lock bar must be depressed quite far to get the action to release. I have a 20ga 870 express and it is much easier to use on that gun. On this new one, it must be pressed PAST flush with the trigger guard, so that will be a major problem this winter when using heavy gloves. Issue #2: When you depress the action lock bar and start rearward movement of the forearm, if you do not use a fast and very firm motion, the little part just to the left of the #1 on this drawing http://www.remington.com/support/parts/model_870/zoomView_schematic.asp pops up and blocks the shell from coming completely out of the mag tube, thereby jamming the entire process. My 20ga. 870 has never done this. So, any ideas? Easy fix or call remington for repairs? |
| on my 870 i had to bend the action bar on the left side a little because when i purchased mine the action was not smooth at all and part # 7 would occasionally get hung up on the left action bar. i used a really nice set of pliers that have a flat contact point that is about 2" long |

When dealing with an 870P, cut to the chase and contact Remington for a repair. Possibly they'll do it free, and even if not, they'll do it RIGHT. When a Police model 870 has a problem it's usually something serious enough that bending around on parts that aren't supposed to be bent is not a good idea. If the action bar lock is interfering with the feed cycle, it's serious. The action bar lock is riveted in place, and if it's necessary to remove it, the entire part is normally just replaced. Sounds like the action bar lock is just damaged or defective. |

Well it's going back to Remington on monday. Honestly I'm kind of pissed that I have a 20ga. Express, the cheapest model they make, and it has worked great, and now I fork over the cash for the top of the line model that is supposed to have better QC and it doesn't work. Oh well, I guess a lemon slips out every so often in anything that is made by a machine. I will update this post when I hear from Remington. |

Big green seems to have their fair share of lemons lately. I think they're going for quantity over quality lately. Just my perception. they do warranty thier product beyond the two year stated warranty usually. Sometimes a test firing and a sheet of "in spec" is all you get though. Sounds like that type of problem will be different. I'm wondering if something isn't put together right, broken spring or spring on wrong affecting the action lock. I'm not expert on that action by any means, I just spray and lightly brush and put it back in. |
